Search For Amelia 2006
In the spring of 2006 the Waitt Foundation worked with Nauticos, Oceaneering and Mt. Mitchell International on an expedition to find and ground truth the final location of Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Electra aircraft. The expedition mapped 520 square nautical miles of bottom around Howland Island, ascribing to the crash and sink theory of Elgen Long. Our effort was not successful but gave rise to the new direction taken by the Foundation in putting together its own equipment and personnel to return in 2009 to conduct another, much larger search.
