Previous studies done by the Association for Animal Inventory and Protection revealed the presence of four species of skates and rays (some of them are considered as rare in the Adriatic) within the waters of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with abundant populations and several potential spawning areas. The main goal of this project is to establish three MPAs within the marine part of Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to preserve habitats and spawning sites of skates, rays, and more endangered marine species. The project will focus on the field studies in order to obtain scientific data for MPA establishment, which will be published in journals and discussed with relevant Ministry and stakeholders in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
